Starting in September, Huntington-Oyster Bay Audubon began featuring special youth only field trips, led by members of our Youth Outreach Committee.

Our past trips have included Jones Beach in September and Montauk Point in November and a winter waterfowl walk in January.

Upcoming trips include birding, botany and general naturalist excursions! Parents are of course welcome and we do ask that you fill out a permission slip prior to the trip and send to us. Loaner binoculars are available to those without their own. For more information, email trickiwoo63@yahoo.com

About Huntington-Oyster Bay Audubon's Youth Outreach Committee

In November 2008, Huntington-Oyster Bay Audubon Society formed a Youth Outreach Committee ("YOC") as a means of engaging teens in nature and conservation.

Stella Miller, Chapter President, mentors the members of the Committee, consisting of three teens: Brent Bomkamp, Brendan Fogarty and Vinny Pellegrino, by providing leadership training in fundraising, marketing, public relations, donor cultivation, and program development and coordination.

The YOC meets once a month to brainstorm program and project ideas. They manage a blog, write articles for the Chapter newsletter, lead a series of "Young Naturalist" field trips, conduct workshops for Cub Scouts, have given presentations at a senior center and are in engaged in a kestrel nest box project.
